About the Tummy Tuck Procedure

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to correct loose skin, excess fat and weakened muscles in the abdominal region. Many female patients have these conditions after experiencing childbirth. However, patients that have experienced a significant amount of weight loss, but still find loose, hanging skin, can also be considered for a tummy tuck. During surgery, the excess skin and fat is removed, and the lax muscles are tightened. The result is a more youthful and firmer abdomen. Women considering future pregnancies may want to postpone their tummy tuck surgery.

Patients must understand that the tummy tuck procedure results in a relatively long scar. However, the scar can be placed low enough to allow patients to still wear such styles of clothing as hip-hugger pants / skirts and bikinis.
